University of Surrey police presence: Officers seen for hours at student accommodation in Guildford

Police arrested a man on suspicion of sexual assault at the University of Surrey in Guildford on Thursday (February 9).

The arrest was made following an incident on campus overnight as police received an allegation that a female student had been assaulted.

Police cars arrived at the university early in the morning and officers remained on campus throughout the day providing reassurance to students.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault following an incident at the University of Surrey in Guildford overnight.

“Officers are investigating the allegation that a female student was assaulted in the area of the university and have this morning (February 9) arrested a man in connection with the incident – he is in currently in custody.

“The victim is being supported by specially trained officers and there are a number of officers around the campus this morning carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance to students.”

“We are also providing professional support from our Wellbeing Centre to students and staff who may have been affected by this incident.”
